I have created a mug rug tutorial on my blog because so many people wanted to know how I made my mug rugs. Here is the link to the tutorial. QuiltingwithQwiltylady.blogspot.com

I put the pocket to hold a cookie or tea bag.

kai's Tutu 04-18-2011 04:10 PM

ok if that is the case this is not a rug mug still confused

Qwiltylady 04-18-2011 05:49 PM

You don't have to put the pocket on if you don't want to. There are no mug rug quilting police!

Appreciate the tute as now maybe I will be able to make one since there is step by step directions.

thanks, great tutorial, love the pocket could use it for tea bags and a spoon maybe.

Thanks, Qwiltylady! I love the pocket! I bought little ceramic tea bag holders shaped like teapots. I'm going to slip those into the pockets of my my mug rugs - the ones I'm going to make for 5 friends, using your wonderful tutorial.

A mug rug is a glorified coaster. LOL. Its just bigger so that you can set your mug on it and maybe some cookies. Some people put a little pocket on them to hold a tea bag or a spoon and I have even seen them stick a little flower in them (stems inside the pocket).

I put a pocket on it so you can tuck a tea bag or a cookie into it and then fold it over and take it in my purse when I am away from home. You don't have to put the pocket on.
