New EQ 8
If you have EQ6, EQ7 or EQ Mini you can get the upgrade here:
http://electricquilt.com/online-shop...c638-303218009 I don't know if I will upgrade. I like EQ7 and it does everything I need it to do. Any one have any thoughts about the new Version EQ 8? The new EQ 8 is $239. I may go ahead and upgrade while it is $79 for the EQ 7 owners, |
Eq8???
Just taking a break from work on a t-shirt quilt and checked email and saw one for EQ8. See that I can up date my EQ7 to 8 for about $75 (Christmas present??) but guess the thing that irks me is I purchased their books so I could figure out how to use EQ7 and they say that the books' pictures of screens will not make any sense--only usable for the written part.
I was hoping for a couple of improvements: greater ease of importing fabric swatches from manufacture sites; no hidden toolbars; easier to draw; ability to design more modern quilts easily; and ability to draw the quilting lines on the block/quilt. From the email ad it looks like the importing of swatches may be possible; that the toolbars are no longer hidden; they claim that the quilt layout can be customized easier and drawing is easier. No real mention was made about previewing Drawn quilting lines. Comments for all of you--and especially if you have some 'inside info"! |
I just checked my email, too. I'd rather spend my $75 on fabric than an upgraded version..Don't get me wrong, I like my EQ7 and use it often, but not enough to warrant spending more$. I've never been happy with the customized quilt portion, so have left it alone.
As far as blocks, I've gotten pretty good at redrawing the blocks I want to use. |
I'm going to pass on the upgrade...satisfied with what I have and don't want to go through a new learning curve.
|
i'm thinking I'll do the upgrade while it's on sale--I know the EQ7 could do more than I do with it, but find that it's not real intuitive which means I end up digging out my books and it feels like I'm not learning it very well. So if EQ8 does a better job of being "obvious" I might go ahead.
|
I have been on the fence about getting one at all...I put off on the EQ7 with rumor that the 8 was coming out. I’m still not sure it would be worth $250 for the program if I only have time for a handful of quilts each year until I retire?
|
I started with EQ3 when it was MS Dos. I remember when the designer said never would EQ be made to run on Windows platform. LOL. I have gotten each upgrade over the years so over the course of time I have paid about or more then the new program cost now. If someone is buying it for the first time it's the same cost but all at once.
|
Wow Onebyone, you must be a pro at EQ! I've had mine for 7 years and still haven't worked out everything. i use mine mostly for fabric/quilt design not for stitching placement. I have messed in the image area, but don't draw well so creating appliques etc is not my style.
|
My email said $37.48 from October 23 to November 7 to upgrade. I guess this is only because I just upgraded from 6 to 7.
|
I will upgrade no doubt. This company has been the very best when I needed help. Screwed up my computer and had to reload Windows and they helped me get everything working again. Unlike Babylock which said I could no longer load my Masterworks without purchasing an upgraded version. Needless to say I was very upset and those are the times when I appreciate a companies that honors the product I purchased and doesn't tell me I can only load the program so many times.
Just read the manual is available free of charge as download. That works for me! I have however always purchased the disc, not sure what happens if I screw up again or get a new computer should I decide to download the program. Anyone know how that works? Lisa |
we had to replace the desk top that crashed and wasn't sure how to get my EQ7 on it since couldn't deactivate it on the crashed one. Gave them a call and that was all it took--great service. now if I could learn the program better--hoping an upgrade to more intuitive program will help!

No updates here, I never really got int 7. As a matter of fact, I have decided to sell alot of those impulse buys that I've made over the years and then never really use them so I have started making a list of the things that falls into that category. Its a great program its just I have too many things that I don't use. I've been really good for the past couple of years, after the damage was done

I was on the fence about it but after watching Kari Schell's webinar yesterday it think I'll upgrade. She has other webinars scheduled. Here's her website.

https://www.onpointquilter.com also--did she show anything about how to use the stencils or drawings for trying out quilt designs on blocks or whole quilts? That is what I most want to be able to do and EQ7 is not real handy for that. |
Well I impulsively updated to 8. I’m all in on the latest and greatest. It is a Whole new ballgame! I have some learning to do.
|
I just bought EQ7 in August and haven't played with it much. For $37 (US) to upgrade to 8 made sense to me. Now I will learn on EQ8 (I hope ;)). Maybe 8 is more intuitive???
|
I would Love to have the upgrade for $37!!!!!
Right now their website says it'll cost me $75 to upgrade. Ugh! Still on the fence... |
I have had the EQ7 on my Apple laptop for several years but have not used it too much. Mostly because of the laptop being small...anyways I purchased the PC version a couple of months ago and have enjoyed using it. And yes, I have upgraded to EQ8 for the special $37 price. I love the new version and I'm glad I upgraded.
|
I bought EQ7 about a year ago (I'd had old versions, but none were upgradable). At the time I asked the company if they were planning an upgrade. They said not in the foreseeable future because they couldn't think of anything new they needed to do. Just one year later, here's the upgrade.
So my answer about whether I'll upgrade: Not in the foreseeable future, because according to them, there's nothing new they needed to do :-). If EQ8 is anything like EQ7, it's on a many year release cycle, so I can wait until the upgrade price gets better through resellers. |
I've never used EQ any version, but massdrop has a pretty good sale on EQ8 right now ($179.99), so I think I'll take the plunge. Hope it doesn't just gather dust and cobwebs on my PC :)
|
got the upgrade last week--kept having some computer problems with resetting my password (could not remember to save me) but they got it fixed really fast and I'm liking what I've played with so far. Especially like the range of custom quilt layouts as templates without even having to alter it. And much better fabric swatches. It rolled over all the stuff I'd added to my EQ7 (like Quiltmaker quilting stencils)but not the manufacturers website swatches of fabric I'd added--so will have to take the time to upload it. More stencil designs included to. I love that the menu bars are so obvious--hated on EQ7 that I never could figure out who buttons were really for or how to find something I needed.
Glad I made the upgrade. |
Does anyone think they will de-list EQ7 and force everyone into EQ8??? I'm just as happy going to a LQS and buying a pattern. Designing my own is pretty much out of the question for this old hen.
The cost of upgrade is now $99.00???? Marcia |

I want to TEST DRIVE IT FIRST - to see if it really is better. WHY can't they do a small TEST DRIVE type thing??
I plan of upgrading my Mac OS so I'm a bit nervous about what will happen to my EQ7 when I do. Plus, pushing out a costly program at this time of year - property taxes, Christmas, I'm not spending money on it right now. WAY to many other things that need tending too first. PLUS, I think they need to have MORE VIDEO TUTORIAL'S. The youtube ones aren't bad but they need to dump the ones with the two women and just do the ones showing WHERE to get stuff. Some folks are having great Success with the EQ8 and others, not so much. I'll be waiting to see how it plays out. |
I hope not because I don't like being treated like a Hostage....

halting sales of a lower version once the newest one is on the market is not holding us hostage.
it just makes sense and avoids confusion. there might be online sources, or shops, that will continue selling 7 until they run out. i got the upgrade to 8. very different, so i will have to get used to the new interface. an old dog can learn new tricks ... it just takes a while. lol |
I don't think I'll upgrade until and unless they have a downloadable demo of the new version that I can play with. EQ7 does fine for me - there are definitely things about it I would change, but until I'm convinced EQ8 is a significant enough upgrade I'm feeling no urge or excitement about trying a new version.

I did upgrade to EQ 8..and yes...like every new software, there is a "learning curve"...but Wow! It is much more user friendly than my EQ 7. I bought the books for 7 as well...(but, in truth only used them a few times.) What I like best about these guys is that if you can't find it on their help pages...you can email them, and within a couple of days...they will come back with real answers to my problems. Product support is amazing--especially since most software is a "once and done"...ie you buy it...and they are done with you.
