New type of seam ripper

Ordered this from QIAD and just may be a new fav tool when I have to do the frog stitch with long seams. I think it's even kinda cute.

That looks really cool! Let us know how it works! And, yes, it is cute!

Julienm1 11-17-2020 07:18 PM

I've used it several times already and just love it.

cashs_mom 11-17-2020 07:56 PM

Thank you, Julie. For that price I might have to try it.

Looks interesting, $3.71 but $6.00 to ship it plus tax. I wish it was sold at my LQS.

I know the bummer with the s/h charges. I'm waiting for a good daily deal to justify s/h charges. These heat resistant pins are today's daily deal (11/18/20) https://www.quiltinaday.com/shoponline/specialsale7.asp

You can buy these in 3 packs on Amazon or pick up at Walmart for like 3 dollars, just google eyebrow razors.

Can get 12 for $7.97 with free shipping at https://www.amazon.com/Eyebrow-Facia...199632-1613006 or 66 for $11.99 with free shipping at https://www.amazon.com/Eyebrow-Trimm.../dp/B07KW36G2J

I picked up a package of three at a thrift store for $1.00. I think I have seen them at the Dollar Tree, but couldn't find a link.

OMG!!! TU for the shopping update. I love multipurpose items. Walmart has them, too.

Sewgood 11-18-2020 06:04 AM

You can find them in the cosmetic section of your local stores - they are called "eyebrow trimmers" I think.

P-BurgKay 11-18-2020 06:30 AM

These seam rippers are excellent. JFYI, eyebrow trimmers are the same thing and cheaper. MY LQS sells the eyebrow trimmer. At a Judy Niemeyer class, the teacher handed the eye brow trimmers out. I bought them for all the girls in the quilt guild that I belong to for Christmas that year.

I would be interest in a quality comparison between the Kai and dollar store varieties. I use the cheap ones. Didn't know Kai had them, but Kai is always top quality IMHO.

I have used other brands of this type on long seams. The third hand tool makes it super fast and easy to use.

Cheshirepat 11-18-2020 08:12 AM

Well, shoot! I have one of those I originally bought for my eyebrows, but it never seemed to work well for me -thanks for the save, now I can use it! :)

juliasb 11-18-2020 08:52 AM

I have considered this seam remover a few times but have not gotten around to ordering one.

redpurselady 11-18-2020 10:06 AM

I don't think the eyebrow trimmers have a guard on the side to prevent cutting the fabric.

Julienm1 11-18-2020 10:13 AM

Best part is that the "teeth" don't cut your skin. I just checked with mine.

I got mine at Walmart and they work just fine.

Yes, they look exactly like eyebrow trimmers. I remember using them when machine embroidering and had a big nest underneath. Worked well to cut the threads to remove the piece from the sewing machine. I haven’t used them in a long time but I never thought to use them as seam rippers - great idea.
