I want to make an illusion quilt someday and have been saving any illusion pics I find so that I can pick the best (by that I mean easiest) one to adapt someday.

This link seems fairly simple.

Klue- your quilts are amazing!

kluedesigns 06-08-2009 07:32 PM

thank you lisa.

the optical illusion quilts are easy to do - the hardest part is keeping the strata sets labeled so you make the correct cuts on the correct strata.

if you do that the illusion just jumps out at you.

if you can make a 9 patch you can make an optical illusion - its really just a totally expanded 9 patch.

Love this quilt Klue! I have always been fascinated with optical illusions since I was a kid.
They make you think not just nod and say pretty and go on.
Don't know about making one tho as I don't have time to make big quilts.
Mini illusions? Ya think?
My dad and I loved puzzles of all kinds. My mom was always picking up little puzzles like the rubics cube when it first came out and chinese puzzles that you have to untangle and she kept them on the coffee table so we would sit and play with them when you watched tv.
Have always been fascinated with how things go together I guess.

mini would be very hard but if any one can do it - its you.

the thin lines in the quilt are only 0.25 and at the bottom those are all 0.25 inch squares.

After I get some orders done that are way behind and the next ebook and some more tutorials and no grandkids underfoot maybe I will play with one. It is an intriquing idea! May have to sneak it in between things!
At least experiment a little. I have done things that if you stand back you see a total differant picture than if you look at it up close. Up close you see the dark but if you stand across the room and look at it you see the light design as a totally differant look. Love that!

WOW! Klue that's beautiful. Something else to add to my "to do list." I'd better get busy and finish all the other stuff I have started first.

kluedesigns 06-11-2009 08:27 AM

i finished my other project early so i'm finally putting this quilt in a sandwich and finishing it up.

our wedding anniversary is in 2 weeks so i'd like to give it to DH then.

Klue, you are so talented and artistic. I love this quilt!
The black and white one doesn't even come close. Your fabric choices worked perfect.
Do you remember where you got the pattern? Although it looks intimidating, I think I would be able to do it if it's anything like following a bargello pattern.
Thanks for sharing. I feel inspired!

thank you for the lovely comments.

i learned how to make optical illusions from a quilting book called optical illusions. i don't have the book any longer but i think its by someone named barbara.

I love the optical illusion quilt! I have bookmarked it. Good grief!!!! I have so many bookmarked, I'll never live long enough to make everything I WANT to.

kluedesigns 06-15-2009 12:36 PM
