Thank you!!! I want to make these for Christmas gifts this year :D:D:D

quiltilicious 05-21-2010 09:30 AM

Cool!

My husband told me that he would like my next batch to have a double thickness of insulation in the batting. Apparently one layer of Insul-Brite isn't enough for handling cookie trays (he does the baking in the house) :)

Thankyou so much for this FREE pattern,
I have been looking for one like this, but I always thought they charged too much for them. Much much appreciated. I too, want to make them for gifts.

Thanks for the pattern. I'm doing aprons, cookie cutters, oven mitts, cook books, ect for my grandchildren and children this Christmas. I want them to have a family focused activity :). Your pattern is perfect for little hands.

Would you give permission for my quilt guild, a non profit organization, to make these to sell at their quilt show this fall?

I gave one of these to DIL and she loved it. I tried to make one and couldn't get it right. I'm so grateful for the pattern.

made a set already- so much easier than the other pattern I purchased. I used 2 layers of batting and the insulbright layer. Makes it kind of puffy but so cool looking.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks for the feedback! Can you tell me what was difficult about the other pattern? Was something missing from there? I'm starting to write up a full quilt pattern and I want to make it easy to use.

Just found this... printed it out and will try it soon. THANK YOU for the free pattern

Barbm 05-26-2010 06:04 AM

comparison-

the lip part is 2 pieces sewn together and stuff the middle- you have the pieces and middle and then the binding- easier to handle.

You baste the edges but it still moves a lot. Your "lips" are smaller so they are easier to handle too.

Might be just me....

I think I understand what you're saying. The other pattern doesn't have binding, and the small parts on the "back" don't have batting? (personally I really dislike oven mitts that aren't "heat shielded" on every part - because if they aren't I manage to burn myself somehow  )

JanetM 05-26-2010 10:36 PM

Thank you for this pattern. I need to make some of these mitts. ;)

Thanks a lot for the pattern, I tried to make these a while back but can't seem to be able to sew nicely the bias tape, what is your trick to do a nice job?

craftybear 05-28-2010 04:07 PM

cool idea and can't wait to make one

I explain it in the pattern a little. You may need to use the wider bias tape the first couple of times until you get the hang of it. Mostly, it's keeping a good tension on the tape around the curve, use a zig-zag stitch, and go SLOWLY. I probably have to stop and readjust the tape frequently, too. If you are really having a problem with it, if you zig-zag stich around the entire raw sandwich edge before you apply the bias tape, that may help you get it wrapped around well.

thanks for the tip and pattern
