They have been clearing this thread out for a few years. Not popular since King Tut came out.

Do you know why it was unpopular?

These two threads are NOT the same.

King Tut is a 40wt thread that is used is recommended for use on both DSMs and long arm machines.

Perfect Quilter is heavier 17wt thread that is only recommended for use on DSMs. I found a number of articles and comments about this thread and all said it is a beautiful thread for quilting. Since it is equivalent in wt to a size 80 tatting thread, some folks also use it for that purpose. Heavier threads, like this one and Sulky's 12wt cotton thread, most often require special handling on a long arm machine (e.g., special adjustments & slower speeds).

I like heavier wt decorative threads -- I have also used Sulky's 12wt. I've ordered one each of the large spools and, from what I've read, I think that I'll be very pleased with it. I wish that I could afford to buy more of it.

I have some of this thread. It quilts great with my DMSs, but NOT in a LA machine, it just keeps breaking.

I guess that's why it's only recommended for use with DSMs.

I've never used such large spools with my DSMs but I have a thread stand that I plan to use with them.
