There's an easier way to do this using ironed coffee filters. Sew the pressed flat coffee filter to the right side of your circle fabric with 1/4" seam allowance. Make a small clip in the filter and turn right side out and press. Then you can machine sew the circle to your background fabric, either blind hem or blanket stitch or zigzag. Cut apart into four at the centers. Coffee filters come in quite a few sizes.
Hope this helps. Jenny

charlotte37830 09-08-2011 10:04 AM

Pretty neat. Looks simple enough.

charity-crafter 09-08-2011 11:52 AM

Doesn't the drunkards path give you the same results? I'm not sure why doing it this way is better...unless you just want the pretty circle.

A friend did a wonderful fishbowl type quilt with the fussy circles from fish fabrics. That was realy cute.

That is great. Thanks a bunch.

PWinston 09-11-2011 10:21 AM

I've seen this technique before but it is great to be reminded. This method is "cleaner" than the circle version described by veranugent because there is no outside stitching on the block. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, I went to her webpage and she has great free tutorials for things such as binding, hand quilting and even has a beautiful quilt pattern to download. The picture gallery is awesome.
