Quilt accidently donated
 

Hopefully, this family can find a quilt which has great sentimental value that accidentally got sent to Goodwill. "The quilt was dropped off at a Goodwill in Aurora but the family was told everything gets put on semi-trucks and is taken away."

I took a picture of the quilt. I'll look at the Goodwill stores here. It could be anywhere.

Are they open? The Goodwill website says that more than 94% of the stores are currently closed.

Post it on the Lost Quilt Come Home web page. They do nothing but list lost quilts. They also post them to their FB page.

I just sent the Goodwill Industries Headquarters a copy of that news article via an email. Hopefully they can contact their distribution centers & someone will return the quilt to the family in Colorado.

Thank you. I don't know the family, but it light of the circumstances of which it was lost and who made it, it would be great if it was found and returned to them.

Wow, you would think Goodwill could do a little bit more than just tell the family that everything gets put on semi trucks and hauled away. How about sending a bulletin to regional stores, alerting managers to the request? When I donate to Goodwill, I like to think that my items are doing good in my community. Disappointing to learn that stuff gets "hauled away". To where, I wonder?

I do hope that the quilt can be found. A couple years ago I was cleaning kitchen cupboards and started a box of items I no longer used to take to Goodwill. I accidentally added a Tupperware or Rubbermaid food storage container that I'd planned to keep. I realized my mistake the day after I dropped the box off and went back to the store to get it. I was even willing to buy it back. I didn't find it on the shelves so I asked a clerk about it. She said if it isn't on the shelf, then they no longer have it. She said they get so many of these kind of items that they only put out the unusual ones and the rest go to the recycling bin. I wonder how many other types of goods they do that with. I no longer donate to Goodwill. There are other thrift shops that happily take my donations and put them out on the shelves whether they have 1 or 15 of the same item.

Goodwill Industries used to sells thing on ebay or even amazon. In the past, I have seen old books on Amazon in the used section. Once when looking on ebay for a specific piece of tupperware, I saw that Goodwill had some for sale on ebay. Certainly surprised me. Haven't shopped ebay in a while so don't know for sure. I guessed that when a donation is made, someone somewhere looks through it and determines value so those more valuable antique type things don't end up in the store selling for 2.00 when it could be worth hundreds or thousands. My guess is a handmade quilt would find its way to a third party site to be sold for more than a quilt would bring in a local store.
I wish the family much luck in locating it.
