Quilt as you go - herringbone quilt
Has anyone seen this quilt? It is the herringbone quilt by Maureen Cracknell.I just came across this quilt and method and want to give it a try. I really liked the collection of bright colors she used. Let me know what you think.

Looks very nice and fun to make but personally I would avoid this type of quilting
simply because of the thick seams. I know it would bother me lots. Different strokes... |
Thank you for the link! As a newbie, I am trying to master new techniques each quilt I make, and after wrestling a queen size through my small harp domestic machine, I think a QAYG must be next on the list, and this one looks beautiful!

I like the quilt. Her instructions say the seams aren't bulky but she defeats the purpose of QAYG in my opinion by putting the backing on at the end and then pushing the whole thing through the machine to quilt. Do able as I have done a king size quilt on a regular machine but I would find a pattern that incorporates the backing.
Let us us know what you decide and post a picture when it is done. |
The QAYG quilt that I have "on the go" incorporates the backing at the same time...got the tutorial from here somewhere..easy peasy, not bulky and fun.

Really like this, thanks for the link. Instead of doing it as a QAYG tho, I might try it just using muslin strips as a base, then sewing the strips together. Anyway, I've added it to my bucket list:)

Thick seams are harder to work whether you're doing them by hand or machine. The last quilt I made I just went battless. Cantankerous of me I guess, but it made it more affordable and to me it's just as pretty. I might try attaching the strips directly onto the backing using this QAYG method.

I like the way gourmet quilter does the QAYG |
Thanks for the link to that website. I check it out and also took the time to look at some of her other tutorials. I saved her site on my Favorites. It looks like a fun quilt to make. Oh boy, another one for my bucket list

Thanks for the post. I have two friends who like to do a quilt as you go.
