Ripping Out Seams

There was a conversation a few days ago about ripping out seams and redoing quilts and someone mentioned she used a battery powered seam ripper. Well, that got me to thinking and I wondered if one of those eyebrow trimmers would work and to my surprise it worked great. In fact I think I like the idea better because its smaller and easier to handle while holding your seam open. Has anyone else tried this.https://www.target.com/p/wahl-lithiu...n/-/A-15079770

I think I will add my extra one to my sewing bag. LOL

It didn’t even come close to cutting the fabric when I tested it, but I only tested it on a seam made with a small piece of quilting cotton fabric.

I have used my late husband’s trimmer for years. It is rechargeable and looks justl like the ones at the LQS. I have never cut the fabric.

Yes, I've used a small beard trimmer for ripping seams. But I can't figure out how anyone would use it to take out quilting, as someone said.

You can’t that I have figured out to take quilting threads out from the top or bottom, you would have to open the sandwich up and open the batting and backing to expose the seam and work at it that way. Only saying that’s the only way I can see to do it...I haven’t tried that yet. I think someone described that method of ripping seams as “Skining”. LOL. I had to remove seams on a small whole cloth and used her method with a regular seam ripper and it was much faster. I could also get at those tight or stitched lines I had backtracked on. Maybe worth a try to speed up the dreaded ripping.

What a great idea. I will have to look around my house to see what would work. Thanks for the idea

Since I never make a mistake I would have no need for one :D
