I never knew what the little ball was for but I have tried her method & boy when you get it in the right place, it glides through the stitches like butter. I ordered that seam ripper also, a little pricey but it is good quality & sharp !!

I couldn't get it to work very well using the ball inside the seam so just put the point it and went to town. I help my object up a little and had it a little tight while I ran the ripper through. It does work well and catches a lot of the stitches after they are cut so you don't have to pick them all out a few at a time.
