Senior Discount at JoAnn's

Just FYI.....this Wednesday, May 2, is senior discount day at JoAnn's. They will give 20% off to seniors (60+) with proof of age. The discount is off your total purchase, including sale and clearance items. From what I understand, this is for every purchase in every store...... Don't think they will give it to me since I won't be 60 until August, but thought I would pass along the info. Happy shopping!!

Ask for it anyway. Sometimes they don't ask for ID, and sometimes they will give it to you anyway.

Quiltaddict 04-29-2012 12:23 PM

Thanks for the reminder.

barny 04-29-2012 12:24 PM

I don't need an ID. All they have to do is look at me to know my age. LOL

romanojg 04-29-2012 12:42 PM

this is why I like Hancocks; first of all you don't have to be 60, secondly it's two days out of the month, every month and then on the other Wed in the middle it's military discount. So for the first 3 Weds of the month, I can go there and get my discount, every month. I don't know why JoAnn's doesn't at least make it a set day. I still wouldn't be old enough, yet but for all that are if you know when it is then you can hold off shopping until then. Happy shopping quilters.

Cant use the sr discount on items with a coupon. They always have an exception!

margaret53 04-30-2012 04:08 AM

I am taking my "senior" hubby to make my purchase:)

You can at Hancocks. Sorry I just had to chime in. They put the military and senior on top of all coupons and other discounts. I figured that JoAnn's would do the same.

cherrio 04-30-2012 05:56 AM

I don't think JoAnns even gives a military discount.

w7sue 04-30-2012 06:07 AM

I personally think JoAnn's is very stingy with their discounts - it is usually pretty hard for me to find something that isn't alrady on sale to use my 40% coupons on - Michael's is the same, I don't even bother going in there anymore - I think that if they have something on sale for 20% off, they should still be able to let you use your 40% coupon - I know it would make it easier for me - will not be a senior for a few more years and by that time they will probably move the age up - lol

w7sue 04-30-2012 06:08 AM

I don't mean that you should be able to get 40% off the 20% off sale price, just 40% total.

vickig626 04-30-2012 06:51 AM

I'll be 60 in June so first time I was actually excited about getting older LOL

I agree with you on this one. I told the lady once that it seemed they put everything in the store on sale by at least a little so they don't have to honor the coupons. The last time I tried to use the coupons the item that I was trying to get did not have a sign that said it was on sale but when she rung it up she said it was on sale so of course I couldn't use the 40% I had to take the small store amount. When I pointed out to her there was no sign she said well it's in the register so they have to go by that. Figures. I try to go to Hancocks if I can. Where I live there is a Hancocks within a few miles of each JoAnn's that I go to so that makes it easy.

Give it a try, you're pretty close to the magic age (and it's not bad when you get there). If anyone asks for ID tell them you're slowly getting used to the idea and if you have someone with a sense of humor you just might get that discount.

KathyPhillips 04-30-2012 06:04 PM

I will be 60 in Aug. too! The 19th. How about you? But I do have a 30% off coupon for my total purchase at Joann's, since I spent over $50 on my last visit!

KathyPhillips 04-30-2012 06:06 PM

Now that's an idea! If I can drag him there! He usually drops me off.

The 13th of August for me.....

JoAnn's is the only fabric store around my area and they're very stingy. If you forget your coupon that's just too bad they don't even keep one at the registers for you to use. They know you have to go there as the other fabric stores have all gone out of business. I'm thinking about buying fabric online

Thanks for the reminder. I had gotten an email about it but probably wouldn't have thought of it tomorrow - until it was too late. I was gonna have a "me" day today but I think I'll wait and do it tomorrow. Joann's and Hobby Lobby are only a couple blocks apart, plus there is a Red Lobster close by also - I can make a day out of it. The Joann's I shop at does give a military discount. I've used it before - can't remember if it was close to veteran's day,if they just do it every now and then, or if it is a regular thing. Ask at your local store. We have found lots of places will give a military discount if you ask.

Geri B 05-01-2012 05:17 AM

I agree about JoAnn having everything I want on sale, so I can't use the coupons either.....I usually try to pawn them off to other people in the store if someone wants them.

I was at one of several JoAnn's in my area-everything 25 miles away in any direction!!!! and this one is re-organizing stuff...what a mess, but they did have much on clearance, like jelly rolls (20 per roll) for 9.95.......and f/q to match at a reduced price. Lots of their garden stuff is already 50-60% off....It seems since they have been purchased by another corp. things are changing...I wonder if it will be better or worse.......

topstitch 05-01-2012 06:13 AM

That is soooo cute and smart too!

DebbE 05-01-2012 06:31 AM

I don't like JoAnn's discount coupon system - its a tease to get you into the store, and then it doesn't apply about 90% of the time. You can go to Hancocks on the 1st and 3rd Wed of each month & get the senior discount on everything...and their senior discount is for younger people. Its either 50 or 55....I qualify either way. I wouldn't qualify for JoAnn's senior discount for several more years....and I try to avoid shopping there because I try not to reward poor business habits....

tesspug 05-01-2012 02:51 PM

Yay, I just turned 60.

oldpiglady 05-01-2012 03:02 PM

I was told by a Jo Ann's employee once that the magazine guy puts his mags.off 10% and that's it. That way he won't lose his shirt. And the same goes for the rack by the cutting counters...things that you see on TV...they mark them at 10% so you can't use use the coupon.

Thanks for the reminder.

Our Hancock's will accept JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby and Michaels coupons. JoAnn's tends to have most items at least 10% off so that you can't use a coupon. So I just take my coupons and shop at Hancock's.
