Steam irons came later. Do you recall using a soda pop bottle as the water container? The little sprinkler plug had cork on the stem to grip firmly inside the bottle neck.................. I also recall those old irons were h*e*a*v*y!!!

I have one of those soda bottle sprinklers. I don't use it, just keep it cause it reminds me of my Mom.

Still do itbthis way. Found the sprinkler head forbthe soda bottle at my parents. Then hadto search for an old bottle...the neck openings on new bottles are way bigger. But this method works. No idea why its out in the refrigerator.

I remember those days. I started ironing at 8 years old. I was good at it. By the time I was 10 I was doing most of the ironing with the exception of my mother's bras with the spiral seams. I could never get them ironed to where she could stuff them all the way to the center. There was always a vertical crease on the end of one side and a lateral on the other.
