Sewing Museum opening at MSQC!
 

I watched the live video of the largest spool of thread being presented to the town of Hamilton and it was announced that MSQC bought the old high school and will converting it to a sewing museum. Oh everyone that visits the town will be able to wind thread on the 18 ft spool. The thread was donated by Auriful. It has one million yards on it to start. The towns people and MSQC employees all wound the thread on the spool. How fun and what great ideas coming from MSQC for the town.

We will be headed that way from Minneapolis to Hamilton on October 9. Anxious to see everything that I have read about. My daughters think we will be there only one day (are they kidding??).

I was there for the unveiling of the spool and took a turn putting some thread on it. It is quite a sight. The building was actually purchased by another family in town. It is supposed to open as the Missouri State Quilt Museum in 2019. The spool is actually 22ft high and was Sponsored by Aurifil.

Hamilton Missouri is a great place for quilters. The stores are awesome. I hope to get back there someday!

My guild is going on a bus trip there in the spring. I plan on going for a weekend by myself in November as it's only an 8 hour drive with stops. I want to take my time and know get familiar with all the shops before the bus trip. Almost impossible to go your own way with a group. Someone always says wait on me or we we'll wait on you. Love the fellowship with the guild but need my own time first.

Mr thinks this might raise the price of quilts up off the floorboards.

Would be nice if it did, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I was fortunate to visit MSQC on a camping trip last spring - we live in NYS and were heading to Tennesee, Arkansas and Missouri. Told DH that if we're going to Missouri we're going to Hamilton! He obliged and HE was impressed (and he knows squat about quilting). I loved it - truthfully didn't buy much but had a fabulous time going to all the shops. The townspeople are so grateful for everything MSQC had done for the town, and everybody is s-o-o-o nice. And I got to meet Jenny - highlight of my trip (even got a pic of me with her) Someday I'll go back as I know there have been and will continue to be wonderful additions.

Just got back from a bus trip. We were lucky enough to be in the front row for Jenny's trunk show in the theatre on Thursday; she is a wonderful speaker. We spent Wednesday morning in Hamilton, then went to Jamesport for the afternoon. The two quilt shops outside of Jamesport were also worth visiting (Quilt Barn and Sherwood Quilts). Then we were in Hamilton all day on Thursday, with quite a crowd for the MSQC birthday celebration. If you can only spend one day there, I'd strongly suggest going on the afternoon of one day and the morning of the next; that way you can take advantage of a couple of "daily deals" and you may not feel as overwhelmed.
