I do this little extra love for the birds. In the early spring I do this around nest building time.

Actually, my understanding is that fabric strips (and I would think ribbon) are very bad for baby birds. Unlike natural materials such as grass and twigs, water soaks into fabric instead of beading up and running off of it. As a result, the fabric strips stay wet too long and the baby birds catch pneumonia. I'm pretty sure wool and yarn would be bad for the same reason. (Hair would be okay, I think.)

I did this with my mop by accident.It keep getting smaller and smaller,but it was so much fun watching th birds getting the strings loose.They are such hard little workers!

I always save the lint out of my dryer for those little guys,
it is warm and soft for them!
