Snail trail
 

Always been intrigued with this pattern......just watched Jenny doan/ Missouri star quilt co., do a YouTube tutorial on it using layer cake pack.....gets two blocks out of each 10" square....makes a good size quilt...tempted! Who here has done snail trail?

Try googling snail trail judy martin. One of the images that comes up is the quilt titled "Shakespeare In The Park." I worked on a raffle quilt that used this pattern, and keep saying I will make the whole quilt for me someday. My somedays keep getting longer and longer and farther away. Since I was working on parts of the larger whole, I could see where the parts come together to make the whole. I did some of the small inner stars and a few of the tail of the snail, where I was surprised to learn that the curve is made with squares and rectangles.
Jenny Doan's work usually grabs me and holds on, but I looked at the email that came out from MSQC this AM, and did not like what looked like ragged curves to me. Sometimes, re-inventing the wheel gives you square edges.

I havent done a snails trail yet but I purchased a Creative Grid ruler for one...somewhere in the near future I will choose some fabric for one.

I agree about the jagged edges. That kept me from wanting to make that particular pattern too

I'm just so ready to start a snails trail in blue fabrics. Now to find a pattern I really like!

I watched the Jenny Snail Trail, too. I love that pattern and the fabric she used. And all her snails have enough contrast to the background. Not all her quilts do that.
I saw some of those "not matching corners", but in the picture of the pattern at the beginning shows all the seams meeting as they should. We need to know how to make them look like that picture.

Jenny does the tutorials fast. She expects the viewer to take time and and not rush. She shows the method of doing it the short cut way. My DD and her friends will do Jenny's way. I gave DD my Judy Martin books and she said Not for all the fabric in the world.

Fat Quarter Shop just had a video on the snail's trail pattern. I liked the final look of that one best. What isn't clear to me (brain gap going on) is the trimming...I get the trimming, but not that she won't say the final size that the squares should be. Not sure I'll buy that pattern, but do want to do a snail's trail. Someday. :-)

It seems so many are doing the snail trail quilts right now and offering their patterns. I get posts on Facebook of them being offered by various shops.

The younger quilters in my guild won't touch templates. They won't cut triangles to sew hsts together. They want easier all the way. Their quilt look as nice as any quilts made. Jenny's tutorials are their go to patterns.
