From Squares To An On Point Quilt - so easy

I would never have thought of this. I'm going to have to try it because I love On Point quilts.

Cute idea! Of course she is assuming that all my corners will match perfectly for recutting the sections.:D

That is brilliant! I have a bunch of 6" squares I'm going to try this with. Thank you so very much!

Thanks - this is so neat! She did well to foresee where the cuts would be so as to place her darker fabrics there. Glad she pointed that out.

What a great way to make table topper or anything on point. I might try this on a handbag.

Where's the seam allowance?

sparkys_mom 09-03-2013 05:34 AM

Brilliant. I have stacks of 5" squares - looks like a good way to use them up.

This is the "Straight to the Point" technique at http://quiltwoman.com/Straight-to-Th...-Patterns.aspx Their patterns note that if you're a stickler for not having points cut off, this method is not for you. I don't have a problem with this -- I seem to do it unintentionally! :)

OMG what a great idea

Very cute. It reminds of a way to John Flynn' way to create a back for a quilt.

I bought a quilt pattern years ago called ' Contra Dance' that was made the same way. That quilt, however, used several sizes of fabric squares.

I haven't made it yet (surprise surprise) and had actually forgotten about it. As I have all of the fabric for it in a box somewhere. I guess I need to find it and makes sure it gets on the 'TO DO' list.

Thanks so much. This is perfect.

My quilt group made a bunch of them for charity quilts. BUT beware that when you do the cuts--bias edges are now on the outside edge of the quilt. Starching the blocks that will be cut would help tame any issues. Just something to think about when you do this method but it is a very quick way to make them on point.

Neat idea! Will have to try it
