I do like to use painter's tape to stitch along but it's a great tip for not sewing down the edge.

I am considering doing more straight line quilting. I have a Phaff which does great straight line stitching with the built in IDT. I is soooo costly to send quilts out for long arm quilting. I am doing lots of quilts lately and would like to quilt some on my own. ANa try as I might I am just no good at FMQ

So thanks, I have been looking at ideas for this, I like the random width, it looks very modern.

Your tute came just in time. I love to free motion quilt but it causes problems with my neck muscles and I need to do something else. I'll give it a try next time.

Thank You for the link. Sometimes we never think of the simple ways to do things. She has a lot of tutorials.

Wow... perfect timing for me as well. I'm currently working on a small quilt and just finished doing all the stitch-in-the-ditch work, and was starting to fret about having to do free-motion stippling (which I cannot seem to master) inside the larger blocks. I love her straight-line stitching! I'm definitely going to try it.
