Turning Charms On Point

I've made several table runners from this technique. Easy-peasy, good for scraps, novelty or holiday!

Great technique ... hope I can remember this when I want to use it .... or at least remember where it is. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, how do they figure these things out? Great idea. I'm going to do it. Thanks for sharing this.

She shows it with 8x12 rows does it work out the same with other numbers ? What size do you use for yours ?
Thanks for the link :)

On her site, she also has a table runner she did this way. Can't wait to try it.

It doesn't have to be 8 x 12 - just so long as it's rectangular. I demonstrated this technique at the May meeting of my Quilt Guild using batik charm squares but haven't finished it beyond making the top yet. Guess I should do that!

the only downside ...

I've done a pattern like this before. There's a whole line that has you piece a rectangular center and then slice and resew to get the squares on point. It's a quick way to make an on point setting, but you lose the points of the squares on the edge once you add your borders and/or binding. Unfortunately for me, losing those points was too much of an irritation and I never made another one. So if having those points matters to you, don't use this method.

I added a picture of one of my table runners in the "pictures thread" that I made using the Charms on Point technique.

Fairly new to quilting but would like to try this. Got lost after first cut. Count down to 5th block on left then cut from top of this block to bottom right hand corner. Hard to tell by pictures looks like one is missing. Do you go back to the upper left where you cut then go straight across?

I start my cute at the bottom...then sew bottom to top. The arrows are showing where I sewed the two together(bottom to top). Then cut again from the corner to the upper edge. and move it to the other side and sew together and there you go....charms on point : )

so if you 'double' the sqs will it still work?? 16 across x24 down??

I always try it on paper first....just draw the squares and cut out tape(instead of sew : ), then cut again. That way I can see the shape of the final top and decide if I need more or less squares. That is how I go my table runner the size I wanted it.

I want to try this with the 2 1/2 inch postage stamp quilt but I am so confused....

Me, too...I sometimes just can't "see" it otherwise...
