I separate the colors also but I use a lingerie bag, wash small load on light cycle. no wringing involved and I can get other things accomplished. I have washed with other delicates or lighter fabric.
|
I don't usually wash my precuts but if I do decide to, this looks like a good way to wash and dry.
|
Thank You! I'm going to try this today.

I don't normal wash any fabric unless I find by testing that it is a bleeder. Don't have a W/D in the apt and it takes too much time to iron all those pieces! :)

Another use for my "spinner". Can see a rush on these at the stores. Great way to wash without using a lot of water...which in some parts of the country is at a premium and conserves electricity too.

Great idea. I have one of the salad spinners too. I'm assuming you can do the same for when you go to starch your fabrics. I wonder how large a piece of fabric you can stuff into the salad spinner before it just won't do the trick?
I've been looking for one of those old fashioned wringer washers or just the wringer section to wring my larger fabrics out after I've starched them. I checked and they do have a towel wringer that you see at the auto shops but I'm not willing to put out that much money for one. They're quite expensive it seems. Thanks for the video as I have some 5" and 2.5" fabrics I'll be starching in the near future. Have been hesitating starching them due to the fraying. Now I feel more confident with this method. |
For pre-cuts, I prefer the manufacturer's instructions-- which advise not to pre-wash. :-) I haven't found any problems with bleeding or shrinking when using them.

I had a real problem with shrinkage with a Northcott layer cake I bought recently. I didn't wash them, but wanted to starch them as I was going to be working with a lot of bias edges. Just by spraying them with spray starch, they shrank 1/2" in one direction, which meant I had to make my blocks smaller than I had anticipated because I was supposed to use a 10" square and ended up with 10" x 9.5". To say the least, I was very frustrated and don't plan on using a lot of precuts in the future.

Great way to wash precuts. Thanks for posting the video.
