Went to Marshall's Dry Goods!

Hoffman batiks for $3.95 a yard by the bolt. The reps were filling flats with quilt shop orders to be shipped out. It was batik heaven. My four friends and I each bought two bolts of 15 yards. We shared and each got 3 yards of each different bolt. I also bought a bolt each of black, cream, and white Dream Cotton for $2.49 a yard. We don't share that. Too inexpensive not to keep the bolt. I like Dream cotton better then Kona.

Sounds wonderful, congratulations!

patsews 03-20-2017 12:53 PM

Glad to hear your comment on Drean Cotton. Is the weight about the same as Kona? Have been disapoointed in JoAnns Kona fabric. Seems to be getting thinner!!

daisydawg 03-20-2017 01:14 PM

I've used their Dream Cotton, I agree it's much better than Kona.

QuiltnNan 03-20-2017 02:04 PM

sounds like a great visit

NZquilter 03-20-2017 02:06 PM

What a sale! Congratulations:)

Jane Quilter 03-20-2017 02:13 PM

how lucky you got to be there.....not the same as on line shopping

Onebyone 03-20-2017 03:04 PM

I can feel confident ordering the fabric I know what it is after seeing it in person. Of course any of the name brand fabric is excellent.

orangeroom 03-20-2017 03:16 PM

Wow! That's fantastic! Just googled that store. It looks so neat!!!!

vcquan 03-21-2017 04:20 AM

Wow.. checked out the Marshalls website. They have really good prices! What about the quality?

Geri B 03-21-2017 05:04 AM

Interesting you mentioned that they were filling quilt shop orders...thought LQS ordered from mfgr...hmmmm

trolleystation 03-21-2017 08:50 AM

Sounds like a trip to PARADISE.

Have you used the black and is it as colorfast as the Kona?

Marshalls is a fabric distributor not a fabric store. The reps buy from the manufacturer and then sell to wholesale customers. Marshall's reps will sell to individuals. The by the yard fabric is available in the front of the warehouse not sold by the reps.

Anything I have gotten from Marshalls was fine, and they sell to quilt shops. Would love to go in person, njust like MSQC. But that is a dream.

I bought these bolts from Marshall's awhile back. Quilt shop quality. If you order the name brand you get the name brand quality. None over $4 a yard.

daisydawg 03-22-2017 04:49 PM

Dakota Rose, I haven't ordered the black, only cuz I rarely use blackA friendof mine has, I can check with her and letyou know what she says.

Onebyone 03-22-2017 04:54 PM

I have used the bright red Dream Cotton and it didn't bleed. I haven't tried the dark blue or purple but they are on my list to buy.

My friend has used it and says she has not had any problems with it.

Thanks for checking this out for me. I need some for a stained glass type pattern. The price is good.

I was just there last Friday! I go about 3 times a year. LOVE IT.

They have different qualities for sale in the store. Great name brand manufacturers down to craft store quality such as Springs Creative. I buy a ton of Riley Blake fabrics from them. I also get my battings by the roll there. They have the best price.

I LOVE Dream Cotton! It is identical to Moda Bella Solids, and according to my salesman is it made in the same factory. Perhaps it's even the same thing, sold under two names? They have another solid line called Smoothie, but it's lighter weight than the Dream Cotton. Dream Cotton is very high quality.

I spent the day scouring the $2.99 flat folds and found lots of great name brand manufacturer's mill ends. I didn't even look much at the wholesale, and didn't see the Kaufmann Batiks at all. :( All good tho, I spent too much $$ as it was.... :D

OnebyOne, there's a great little barbecue place called Fox Creek Barbecue, not 5 minutes away from Marshall's. I always eat there. Next time you go, try it out!

I am so envious of you in the US when I read how cheap fabric is compared to here in Australia.

We use to go eat at Julies on the water but it was closed for a long time and never opened when we go. I'll try the Barbeque place next. My sew group is going again in a few weeks. Thanks!

I have been shopping at Marshalls since before they were a big store, about 30 years. I seldom buy anywhere else.

You must live nearby... lucky you! I would love to go more often but they are a 6 hour drive (one way) for me.

Onebyone 03-27-2017 07:48 AM

About 2 hours away for me. I can go any day. I don't go on weekends though, the reps don't work on weekends and I usually buy bolts.

quiltingshorttimer 03-28-2017 08:48 PM

is Marshalls anywhere on the way to Paducah if you are coming from the Kansas City area? I'm hoping to get my DH to do a trip to Paducah within the next year or so and thinking that would be a nice "side trip"!

Macybaby 03-29-2017 07:30 AM

Marshall's in in Arkansas. It's a nice drive from Kansas City, very pretty country. Then you can head back up into western MO and cross over the two narrow high bridges (one over the Mississippi and the other over the Ohio) and then head into Paducha. Those bridges give both DH and I the willies! Then you could north into Illinois and through St. Louis to get back to Kansas City.

So not really on the route, but that would be a fun trip. And if you have more time, then swing farther north and hit MSQC too.

Jordan 03-31-2017 09:32 AM

Sounds like too much fun. Glad you and friends got to enjoy the time and sharing fabrics.

About a half hour drive. I get to go next week!
