Who received the e-mail today from Craftsy (now Bluprint) and what do you think?

I've read through it a couple of times and, maybe I'm wrong, but this is what I'm interpreting. We'll still have access to the classes we've purchased in the past, but unless we join Bluprint and pay for a subscription (monthly or annually), we will not have access to any New content or new classes.

Opinions, comments anyone?

Onebyone 01-02-2019 07:09 AM

I am assuming the old Craftsy format wasn't suitable to maintain as it was for future growth or profit.
I joined and paid Bluprint subscription last year. I saved more then the subscription cost me this last year on fabric and notion sales. Plus the $25 credit to use to buy anything from the site. I hope they keep the incentives to join. I got layer cakes for $10, charm packs for $3, yardage, notions, kits and thread at fantastic prices and all free shipping. It's worth it to me.

When you think about how much an 'in person' class will cost you, Bluprint is a great deal. And they have such good classes and teachers. I watch Angela Walters over and over. I don't think I could make an Annie Unrein bag without her classes leading me though the tough spots. And I've learned so much about QAYG from Marti Michell..... It's a really good deal, plus you get free shipping on all supplies while you are a yearly subscriber.

I haven't seen the part of not having access to new content or classes. I have purchased from Craftsy over the years and received great service and value. I also added the free classes they offered along the way. As a company purchased by such a larger entity (NBC), there was bound to be changes, some positive and some thorny. Just like the transition when Fabric.com was purchased by Amazon, there were changes. The one class I downloaded from Craftsy for free - Creative Quilt Backings by Elizabeth Hartman- was excellent. Since I prefer both written and visual teaching methods, the online classes make the process easier. Guess there is more to come...

I too was wondering, I will not be happy if I have to have a subscription to view my already purchased classes, I have over 100 classes so they have already got their monies worth out of me.

DonnaC 01-02-2019 10:35 AM

I just re-read the e-mail and think I misinterpreted one thing... it said "Access all of our new and current content for one low monthly or annual price" which led me to believe we would not get access to anything new, however it does say that we can still buy individual classes. So I guess we'll have to wait and see!

mandyrose 01-02-2019 10:48 AM

donnac I thought the same as you im a little confused on that but yea wait and see.......

From my understanding you always have access to the classes you paid individually for. Just won't get any new content unless you buy it.

Dalronix 01-02-2019 03:32 PM

I don't think I will be purchasing any more classes than the 60+ I already own. I'm not very optimistic about the future of Craftsy/Bluprint.

I use Craftsy to find unique patterns - sometimes a whole quilt but often just a block that suits my needs. I won't buy a subscription for that so won't be subscribing to BluPrint. I am concerned for those who posted the blocks that I bought. That aspect has been eliminated for the most part and that source of income for those individuals is gone. That is regretful.

I love Craftsy/Bluprint classes and will stick it out with them. I've tried other venues and they just didn't click with me.

I currently have an annual membership for Bluprint and about a week ago I received an email that my membership just got better -- they were providing 12 free classes to me (3 per quarter) through the next year. These classes are mine to keep if I don't re-up with an annual membership.

Also, they were offering 12 free classes if you signed up for a new membership last month (same 3 per quarter).

It sounds like you may still be able to purchase individual classes.

But there are some major changes happening. I got some too good to be true savings on tools and fabric throughout December. It leads me to believe they are re-vamping items they will be selling.

I enjoy the classes on Bluprint and often have a class playing on my Ipad while working on projects in my sewing room. I am not worried about the ones I have purchased from Craftsy as I believe they will make sure you will always have access to them...that’s what they guaranteed when you purchased them. Otherwise, they would have to refund your money right?

quilterdunn 01-03-2019 06:17 AM

AUQuilter, I am very interested in how you downloaded the Craftsy class. I am frequently in a situation where I do not have internet, and would love to still be able to watch my classes during those times. You can pm me if necessary. Thanks ahead of time.

If they go out of business or sell to someone else, the answer is NO to your question. Everyone is watching closely. I tried to purchase a pattern from an individual vendor on their site yesterday, would not allow me to use PayPal credit card option. I sent an email to them to see if they were selling out of all of their kits, notions and supplies. The girls responded that they were just reducing inventory for more after the first of the year. Have not seen the "after the first of the year "selections yet. Lots of changes going on.

I hope they don't end up folding. If they do they should have to send videos of the classes we paid for. I have really learned a lot from the ones I have taken.

MarleneC 01-03-2019 08:01 AM

I feel the same way. I have all of their quilt classes and haven't seen anything new that shows anything differently. I like the On Point u-tube videos that give a lot of instructions.

I too have purchased classes and patterns from them before the company change. I can say as recently as 2 days ago I received a email telling me a designer had made a change to one of my patterns. So the notification came through about an already purchased pattern, so I think there will continue to be access for us.

DonnaC 01-03-2019 11:17 AM

quilterdunn, I believe the only option (if it still exists) is to download on an IOS device (iPad). They took away our ability to download classes to computers a few years ago, and then removed the ability to download on Android.

I have downloaded a class to my iPad but it's been quite a while, so I'm not sure if they have also discontinued that option.

This is interesting! I’m not a paid member of either provider, but I bought several layer cakes, sets of fat quarters and yardage for the same prices as you did. I kept going back and ordering more for about a week. I got plenty to donate to our Charity Worker Bee.

I can't find the classes I've paid for, which really makes me not happy. Sent them an email with little results as yet. Why would we pay more for stuff we can get for free almost anyplace else.
IF they are holding my paid for classes for ransom (ie membership) they will be waiting a long time. I was told they would be mine forever, and available.

ME EITHER.. Email them if you can't find yours... I can't find mine.

Me either!

Bjbaxter 01-03-2019 07:44 PM

I just checked Craftsy, and thankfully, my class still come up for me to use.

SarahBethie 01-03-2019 08:51 PM

I like the free classes that come with the BluPrint subscription. I'm sticking it out. I like the convenience of being at home.
