Working with Minky?

I did once and it was almost impossible. I ended up giving it away to someone on the Board.

But now, ready to try again, I googled it and came up with this site which has some good guidelines about how to survive working with Minky.

Perhaps now my Minky will not be stinky!!! :o

If you are using Minky as a backing for a quilt, I would recommend using washable glue to baste the quilt. I have done it that way and it works great. The Minky won't slip or stretch.....and no pins!

I have used minke on several quilts. The key to making it behave is the dryer. When you cut minke, use the tips of your scissors to get between the fibers. This will also minimize the fuzz. Also, when you cut, (any shape), carefully stuff it in the dryer with a couple of dryer balls and airfluff for ten minutes. It will not shed anymore. I used 505 to anchor the applique piece down and it worked great. I also use spray baste when I use minke for a backing. This prevents stretching.

Great website, SueSew, and great tip, M cubed. I made some minky scarves and vowed never to use "that stuff" again. This thread has given me some courage to try again as I do love the feel of it.

I just made 2 with minky layer cakes of animal prints and used it also for the backing for 2 GGD's for Christmas. The first one was great. The second one for some reason some of the squares were not true so needless to say some of the seams did not quite match. I used glue sticks instead of pins. I was a bit over zealous in a few places so I washed them and they came out beautifully. I didn't find it too awfully difficult. Just be careful with it and pin, pin, pin, or glue, glue glue. Good luck
