Hi Everyone,
There have been a couple of threads lately about these items.
I started to wonder about my batting choices and did a little research. I am pleasantly surprised, and I also learned something about basting spray. I posted to the current thread, but I think this is information everyone can use, so I'm posting this link here, too.

Here is the link to the entire study for anyone wanting complete information:

http://cool.conservation-us.org/jaic...44-01-003.html

For anyone wanting the short story, here is the conclusion of the study:

'Fusible battings appear to be an acceptable commercial adhesive-containing product for quilts intended as heirlooms or for sale to collectors or museums.

All the quilt-basting sprays, except Spray and Fix, were associated with significant yellowing or strength losses following both shorter and longer periods of heat-aging and light exposure.

Fusible webs, while acceptable for quilts intended to last for a lifetime, could not be recommended for quilts intended to be handed down from generation to generation or for studio art quilts intended for sale to serious collectors or museums.'

Thanks for the great link. I read the study (my eyes are a little crossed) but believe it contains valuable info.

My quilts are never going to be in a museum or sold for tons of money but I do want to use the best materials in them (be they ever so humble). I'm still a little confused about basting sprays remaining after laundering. If I interpret that right, if the quilt is washed soon after spraying, most of, but not all of, the residue is removed. Is this how you read it? I'm only concerned about baby quilts but they're washed so often it seems it would remove the residue.

Thanks again-very interesting and helpful.

Thanks, Jan, I'm confused too! I think to be on the safe side I'll just make sure I get some of the brand that's recommended. I've always been a fan of fusible batting, and there is a current thread about it over on Main. That's what led me to the study.

Mine are just for family and friends so I think they will be OK. But thanks for the info.
