Yes, a friend of mine had her husband cut a whole lot of them for a group of us to learn last year before the "commercial" ones were available but after that different gals had any hardware store cut them. The small one is 3 1/2 inches with the measurement 1 inch in from the corners and draw the diagonal line with a sharpie marker. very easy. the larger one for the layer cake (10") square is 8 1/2" I believe. I just can't put my hands on my larger one now. I think you might be able to go 8 3/4 or 9" but try a couple first. A bit larger template would just leave less waste. Definitely very easy to make your own![

I was wondering the very same thing. I Googled and couldn't find the actual sizes of the rulers.

Have you tried the larger quilt yet using the 6 1/2" ruler with 8" blocks? There is a twister tool using 10" blocks, but don't know what size the ruler is. President of our quilt guild said she thinks it would be a 6 1/2".

I think it would 8 1/2" not 6 1/2" otherwise there would be way too much waste.

We had our quilt guild meeting last night and one of the ladies had just bought the book, she didn't have it with her, but is going to send me an e-mail after checking it out, another just ordered the book. When I find out I'll let you know.

i ordered the small one 2 days ago..no book though.

reguarding washing the nickles, i wouldn't do that. i think on the packaging for them and the jelly rolls, it says NOT to prewash. use a color catcher, after the project is finished, if worried about bleeding colors.

Hi,
Love all the pictures of the different Twister quilts and runners, etc.
Question, years ago I made a quilt called Squaredance. first you sew all the squares together and then cut them with a template at the junction of the squares and sew them back together.
Looks very very similar....thinking it's the same idea only the pinwheels are slightly different after they are cut.
I will have to find my templates now....thanks gals for getting me going on yet another project! LOL

I kind of thought it was the same, thanks for verifying that for me! I have two templates for it then, won't have to buy rulers anyway.

They did change the name, we always called it Squaredance here in Minnesota.
