embroidering on a bib
I have several vinyl backed bibs that I would like to embroider on. What stabilizer would be best to use? I was thinking a medium weight cut away or tear away. Also, the front is a very low pile type of terrycloth, should I still use wss on top?
Thank you! |
Yes, use the WSS on the terry cloth top.
What type of design are you doing? I don't know if the vinyl is going to hold up with the stitching if it's dense. Perhaps an outline stitch design will work. |
Well, I never thought about that. The design has words and a picture. I'll try to post a picture of the bib, and the design if I remember where I got it :).

I did a bunch of bibs for a friend that had triplets and used the WSS on the front, on the back I had bought and used the self sticking adhesive. I was able to peal it back to trim it. Since they really don't last very long I wasn't too concerned about lasting. The person I sent them to hasn't said how they held up and I am afraid to ask.

I would test one with several different types of embroidery. I would worry about the vinyl tearing away from the perforation of the needle unless the vinyl is adhered/bonded to the terrycloth, versus an actual separate layer. You could also add a layer of iron on vinyl after embroidering them to "seal" the bib - like a patch. Back to the original question, I would use WSS on the top and bottom, as the vinyl should help to stabilize the stitches. Good luck with your project - would love to hear about the results on this type of bib, I have always used plain terrycloth bibs for embroidery.

Thanks for the help everyone. Plan to try one out soon. The vinyl is bonded to the terrycloth so hopefully that will help. The bibs were given to me and are not homemade. I have 4 or 5 of them, so I'll just pick my least favorite color and use it for the tester.

The vinyl backed bibs dont stitch as cleanly and cause headaches. I did one once and i only did that one
