That sure does look like it is a problem. Might check to see if there is lint keeping the needle from going up all the way to be seated right. Those brothers can have their troubles.

Well LW, that wasn't it. This machine is so clean you could eat off of it..lol
I took the back cover off to see what I could see. I found the timing belt, it appears to be in good shape. I wonder if there is an adjustment I can make to the shaft with what appears to be a cam on it with set screws. Also I found a plastic gear directly under the bobbin area. I am hoping someone here can help in the next step any timing adjustments. |
Chasing Hawk, I have no suggestions for fixing your machine but I just wanted to say I like the dead chicken idea! Desperate times call for desperate measures.

There is possibly two different issues with the needle position.
From your last picture, it looks like the unit #6 which holds the needle has slipped down. The top of the needle should be all the way UP in the needle holder shaft. Re check the needle position and the screw holding the needle. The screw (right hand) side can get striped by over tightening. It needs to be snug but not over-tightened. Our dealer talked about this problem with unit #6 at one of the maintenance classes. I don't know the exact cure for position #6 if it has slipped out of place. Good luck! |

First thing...........Thank you all for the great advice. Turns out after all the frustration, cursing and stomping it was the needle. Rhonda spotted it, so I changed to a 75/11 and put the machine back together. By that I mean I took the back cover off and several other small covers here and there. I did a test run on a scrap set up in the hoop and no breaking of the thread, no strange noises, no warning bells. Just a smooth run. Oh, and I updated the software from Version 1.00 to 1.21 |

Yay! Success! Glad you were able to fix it.
Thanks for posting that second picture of the needle shaft. PS: Don't forget to check the screw that holds the embroidery foot. It can jiggle loose and then cause issues. |
