I own a Bernina 440 QE. I have updated to ArtLink 7. I am trying to use an .exp design. I have hooked up the disc player to my computer, computer to machine and it goes through all the right steps but it will not sew. Feed dogs are down, presser foot is unplugged, bobbin is threaded through the hole, etc. Please help it is driving me crazy!!!

I wish I could help...heck I just got my Embroidery module for my Bernina 770QE and haven't had time to take it out of the box yet. I am supposed to go back to the dealer to get a lesson...in my spare time. : (

Have you taken in your machine lately to see if it needs an update? The last time I took my B 440 in for a checkup, there was an update for my BSR. I didn't even know I needed one. I did not get the embroidery add on when I bought my machine.

Just checked with the Bernina Dealer where I used to work. If you are using Artlink, your design has to be in .art format not .exp. For Bernina embroidery machines, you use .art format designs if you have your computer connected to the embroidery machine by a cord. You use .exp if you have your design on a USB stick that goes into the side of the sewing machine. The B440 does not have the ability to use a USB stick. So, if you purchased the design on a CD disk, check and see if there is a .art formatted design on the disk. Most multi-formated disk have both .art and .exp. If you have the .art format on the disk, use .art instead of .exp and you are good to go. If you have the Bernina software, you can use it to convert the .exp design to a .art design. Open the .exp design in the software and then do a "save as" and save it as .art. If you do not have the software, try going back to where you got the design and ask to be able to get it as .art. I have converted many designs for an 84 year old who upgraded from a B440 that had to be connected to the machine by a cord to B640 that uses the USB/.exp format. She had multi-formated disks that had both but did not have the knowledge to get them to a USB stick. Hope this helps you get started.

I have the embroidery module for Bernina qe 440 - I have not used it for 3 years bc Windows 7 wouldn't let the machines talk to each other. I've decided to give it another try. Can I get some advice on where to start?

ND quilter has the right answer for you. You need to convert it to the .art for the bernina to read it properly. You see the art stands for artista which is bernina's machine format.

I just took mine out today after at least 10 years in the box. Will be trying to hook it up tonight. I don’t know why I’ve been afraid of it all this time. Last weekend I bought a burnette deck 600 at a rummage sale and had enough success this week with it to give my 440 QE another try. Would like to know if you have any luck.

Remember girls there are tons of built in designs in both of these machines. The 440 even has quilting block designs to quilt with.

I don't know anything about your machine, but if it came out before windows 7 you may need to get it updated. Check with the dealer.
