I have been fortunate to have had quilts all my life but I made my first quilt just for me. I have given away many others but the first one is special to me.

That was sweet of you, Thank you, Ms. Shawn

You can work on more than one quilt at a time. Sometimes, I have three or four going at once. I only started this pleasant hobby at the end of 2002. I have made approximately 100 tops. Many of them are not quilted, but they are being marked off the list one by one. I have not kept count of the number of charity quilts that I have made for the sick, abused, children of soldiers, etc.

It is truly more blessed to give than receive.

It is also a great pleasure to say. "I made it myself."
Thank you so much you all are so sweet and me lots of inspiration!!!  :XD: Shawn

Welcome on the Board. Make one of yourself. I also never owned a quilt until my 41. And made it myself. :)
Maybe you can join a swap on this board. So will your first quilt become a very special one.

With all the ideas that come from this forum, after you make that first one, you will have a list you want to do. I've been quilting a long time, but I still learn so much on here. I'm 62 and I know I will never live long enough to make every quilt I'd like to. I'd have to live to be 162 to do that, even then I'd still see more I wanted to make. Have fun, don't rush through it...and welcome to quilting.

I'm a newbie quilter. Decided to make one as a wedding gift for my son. The blocks were 19" square made up of 2 squares, 2 rectangles and a co-ordinating colour strip in the center. Very easy to put together and very easy to quilt. It was far from perfect but I will learn as I go along. I used jewels tones in deep red, gold, green and a print that had every colour in it. I was very pleased with the way it turned out and so were the newly weds. As a result, I have the "bug" and can hardly wait to start another one.

Ms Shawn, Your are not to far from me. Do you ever come into Buckingham or Cumberland? If so PM me & I'll give you my number so you can call me sometime. I will help you with making a quilt and you can see the ones I've done as well. No charge to help you with this, I have nothing better to do then help someone willing to learn.

I am 47, and don't have a quilt yet, I will make one for me next year, after Christmas quilts are done for my family. so maybe after your done with your parents quilt, you could make one for you, like I am going to do, as buying is not a option for me. I would love to have one sooner, as I am cold all the time, and when I am cold I hurt more. But that just is not going to happen. God bless.
