I have made I spy quilts for my GKs using some licensed fabric, and am wondering if I can use the leftovers for charity quilts or if that would be against the licensing laws? Does anyone know? I am also trying to add triangles to squares. I saw a picture of a quilt block with triangles around a square (to give it an offset look) but it only talked about technique not sizes to match each together. Does anyone know how to figure ratios to get the triangle to fit the square? Thanks for any help.

This has been an ongoing discussion here on the board. Without going into all of it my take is, unless you sell it using licensed fabric is Ok to gift.

There shouldn't be any probs with the licensed products. You aren't selling them you are giving them away.

Thanks for the info. I didn't explain correctly what I was thinking. I meant to say triangles made from rectangles to add to the squares. Again thanks for any help or ideas.

OK I'm confused ( doesn't take much these days! ). Are you wanting your bocks to be wonky? Can you post the picture of the block you are referring to?

My take on the licensed fabric issue is that you can even sell the item you make, as long as you make it clear that it is your own creation. In other words, if you use Mickey Mouse fabric and make a quilt, you can sell that quilt, but you cannot sell it as authentic Mickey Mouse merchandise.

I guess I'm totally out of the loop on licensed fabric. It seems to me that if I buy the fabric, the company has already gotten licensing permission. I have made Mickey Mouse quilts, Berenstein Bears, Sesame Street, Tinkerbell, and many sports teams.
What am I missing?

On some of the licensed fabric it says for home use only and I was unsure of the licensing /copyright laws.
