If you will be anywhere near Charlotte, NC, there is Mary Jo's. It's in Gastonia, just west of Charlotte off Hwy. 85. It's a huge place, packed with all things quilting and sewing... a real gem!

A wonderful shop in West Columbia, SC, Creative Sewing Machine Center. Large with an amazing inventory. They used to be a sponsor for Sewing With Nancy on PBS. Here is a link to their website. Be sure to check out their blog too. Link on their website.

SillySusan, have you been to MaryJo’s recently? I live in Kannapolis, NC and have loved going to MaryJo’s for over 25 years. After 12 to 15 months of not needing to go, I was excited to go there last week. I could not believe how much they cut back on their selection on just about every department. I am so disappointed. Has any one else been there and come to the same conclusion?

You know Mary Jo died and her son runs the store now. There's been lots of changes since she's no longer there. Less inventory and higher prices. I guess that's progress for you.

The last time I went to Mary Jo's was about 2 years ago. I liked it a whole lot better before they moved. The new place is so shiny, bright, light, and organized. I liked the old hand-painted signs and the old cluttered look of the old place. I'm sure some people prefer the changes but I'm not one of them. In the past, it was an paragon; now it is just a big fabric shop. I'm sorry to see these changes.
