Default Adding Border To Quilt

I am new at adding borders to a quilts; I have not attached the borders to my top piece yet. I am a little confused with the sequence I should add the border. Is this correct?
1. Stitch border to the top piece (iron)
2. Make the sandwhich (bottom piece/batting a little larger than top quilt)
3. cut & trim as needed
4. Free Motion quilt do I free motion the border pieces
or do I wait and trim after I free motion?
Thanks In advance for all of your help!

This is the sequence I follow:
1. stitch borders
2. make the sandwich
3. Free Motion quilting including borders
4. trim as needed
5. bind the quilt

Red face

I stitch the side borders, before I put on top and bottom. I square the quilt after quilting.

I do as Anael does it. Be sure to measure through the center of the quilt and cut borders to this size. For the top and bottom and both sides.
