Your husband is a dweeb. Let's bet he also does some things that are "inappropriate for his age." I taught myself to quilt at age 40 and have found a true passion. My husband, truth told, is jealous that I have found something so simple that makes me so happy. Who cares what age? That has nothing to do with it!!!!!

My younger Grson took home arts in grade sch & they all made quilts,maybe30x40.He told his mama (our DD) that he wanted to make a quilt for his Grma (me) because "she made one for me".He chose the colors (football fabric LOL),cut the sqs & sewed them together, then birthed the quilt. After tying it,he was the proudest little boy around when he gave it to me,asking "do you like it?"
Ahhhh......brought tears to my eyes.Have it saved for when he has a little boy.I started in my 40's & that was a long time ago.

I'm 67 and I watched my Mom quilt. But I moved away at 17(got Married) and taught myself to quilt about 22 years ago. Not to good at first, but ,We started a quilting guild about 10 years ago in my little town,we moved back too, and we are all helping each other ,learn, and improve everypart of quilting. I have 3 grown, sons. One of my grandaughters, who lives far,far away comes every summer for a couple of weeks, and loves quilts. At first we made a pillow,( she was seven) then we went to quilts and she has make about 4 quilts now, She took to sewing like a duck to water. I have been married 50 years , and he doesn't mind my hobby.

I'm 82 and never met a sewing machine or project I didn't love. Eventually!

Im 44, and my Great Grandmother taught me to quilt when I was 9, thats when we made our first quilt together. It was a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt, and I still have it! I have been saving fabric, and sewing (by hand for many years) since. DH and I have a total of 5 kids ages 12-29, and 9 grands, ages 5 mos-15. Before I moved to marry my DH, he asked me if I really needed all of my fabric & "junk". I wanted to knock his head off, but instead, I said " I guess instead of quilting, I could use my fabric money to go to the bar's".He now fully supports my quilting/fabric stash, and even spent $400 on shelving for my first love!

Am I the oldest on the board? My sewing group has three older than me. 83, 85 and 87 and all going strong.
