Default All the same or mixed

The pattern calls for mixed half square triangles...but when I showed the block to another quilter said when she thought of trees they should be all the same. So opinions please.

So the initial design calls for scattered random HST instead of planned as individual trees?

That's largely a personal taste, either way can work. I typically go with many repeats each with a different fabric, I find many different fabrics placed randomly even with strong contrast and reading as similar to be rather chaotic but it is exactly the right choice in some cases!

So no help at all, up to you.

I like all the layouts. This is another case of your personal preferences. I just want to see what you choose and pictures of it when it is finished.

Personal opinion. Designer had one thought, quilter has another, you might have either or a third thought. Don’t let someone else make the decision for you.

I mean, if you're going for an overall 'scrappy' feel, I think the mixed patterns for each tree looks fine! I'd say, continue with 'mixed' pieces of any other components for the rest of the quilt, if it's a full quilt. If it's just a small block or two by itself, it's just fine to me as mixed green fabrics.

I agree that this design could go any direction successfully. If it were me, I would probably use the same fabric on the HST's that form the left/right of a level of the tree, but use different fabrics on top, middle, and bottom.

Both arrangements would be fine. For me it would depend on if I had enough fabric for a good random mix or just enough to do each individual tree in one fabric.

JMHO - I like the individual trees with all the same, but then mix up the various trees. Some one fabric/hue, others another hue.

As far as mixing up the individual trees - how would it look with a top layer one fabric, middle layer another fabric, then bottom layer the last fabric. Could be ombre-ish - medium, medium-dark, then dark. Might play with that idea a bit.

Just me - but I didn't like the left/right sides being different, ~ so you whatever makes your heart sing. =)
Have fun with it!

I would prefer each tree to have the same fabric. Doesn't matter as it is your quilt and you can do it however you like.

I have never seen two trees in nature that were identical.
I love your different fabrics and think they would look wonderful!
