I want to make a memorial pillow for a friend with a photo on it, she loves looking at this photo.

I am having a devil of a time with the ink jet iron-ons. They won't stick to 100% cotton material so I am substituting a poly/cotton mix for the picture panel, but I am still having trouble getting the iron-on to iron onto the fabric, it keeps sticking to the inkjet paper backing.

The printable fabric works better and can be sewn into the panel, but this fabric is not washable, the package reads dry clean only. The iron-ons are washable but won't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe some hint to make this a fabulous success story . . .

I have had good luck using Bubble Jet..

You can use any fabric, you get it completely soaked in the Bubble Jet, then let it air dry.. Press with your iron to finish drying..

Then you iron it to a piece of freezer paper and trim fo 81/2 x 11 inches..

You then put it through your ink jet printer just like paper..

The pictures come out very nice and fairly color fast.. If you wash any of these things repeatedly they wont stay, but this one will stand of to occasional washing..

The fabric panels from Electric Quilt say they aer washable. have you tried them? i have used them in my quilts, but must admit I have never had to wash them so don't know how they will hold up.

I use Photo Fabric from Crafters Images at Jo-Anns. I had problems with HP ink washing out but the Epsom ink works better. I tell all that get my picture quilts it is to be hand washed or dry cleaned, but it can be washed.

Bubble Jet Set is absolutely the least expensive way to print permanently - and machine washably - on fabric. i've been using it for years. they even make a second, special formula for the newer HP inkjet printers. (when they "improved" the HP ink, the new stuff didn't work nearly as well with the original BJS formula. go figure.)

the lowest price for BJS can usually be found at dharmatrading.com

the manufacturer also produces other products useful to those who want to print permanently on fabric - including a variety pretreated fabrics. i haven't tried the pretreated fabs yet, but if the quality of BJS itself is any indication, i expect they'd work very well. they are also more reasonably priced than any other similar product i've seen on the market.
