Ok now, do I line up the fabric with the outside of the foot or the lower half that comes in a bit?

At the risk of sounding stupid-what kind of sewing machine to do you have and is that a 1/4" foot or just one you use for sewing and you want to know where the 1/4" mark is on that foot? I cannot tell by looking at it.

looks to me like you line up fabric with indented side on the right. You can check with ruler just to be sure.

it's a very good quarter-inch foot.

the narrower front end. feed the fabric in so it lines up with the edge.

this foot is also excellent for stitching in the ditch - especially if you press your seams open. it also works well for echo quilting.

I have a Brother CS6000i. That is the 1/4th foot.

Oh ok. The ft on my Kenmore was straight on both sides so it threw me off as the what part to go by. I was going by the lower half on right (of course)
