Can you tell me the major difference between a Singer 99 and a 301. The 99 appears to be bigger/heavier. Is that the case? and is it as versatile?

I have both, but the 99 is broken and I don't use it. The 99 is heavy. I just bought a 301. The 301 is light, and has a great handle on top which makes it convenient to carry. The reviews I've read online hold a lot of praise for the 301.

The Singer 99 is a 3/4 size machine, so it's a tad smaller than the 301, BUT it is a very heavy machine. My 301 is light weight full size machine, and very portable, has a built in handle and does FMQ. Both machines do a beautiful straight stitch. The 99 is a low shank machine. The 301 is a slant shank. If I had to pick between the two I would go with the 301.
