I've been using one of the little irons because the pp quilt that I am working on has tiny pieces. I am finding the little holder that came with the iron very awkward. I have turned it over numerous times and I am afraid that my dog will walk by and move the cord, knock it down and get burned, not to mention myself. (I am keeping the cord pushed to the inside of the table near me, but I would be so upset if Arlo got hurt.)

I am thinking that I saw some ideas somewhere about what to do with the iron instead of using the holder. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

I use a coffee mug to hold mine.

I have used a tall coffee cup to hold mine and I also have one of those silicon sheets that you can place you full size iron on and sometimes I just lay it on it.

I have a wooden holder that has a raised metal bar to hold mine...can't remember where I got it...maybe at a quilt show. The mug sounds like a good way too...the little "stand" that came with the iron was not useful at all.

A pint jar works well too. It's deeper than a mug, so holds it perfect. It doesn't look very fancy though.

DH used welding rod to make a large loop, sorta ? shaped, but a bit more closed. He put it horizontally in a shelf near my work area. The mini iron is where I can reach it, but not get burned as I work.
