You could put a lightweight fusible stabilizer on the back of the satin before cutting the block pieces. I think that would make piecing it much easier.

1) What are the satins like? Washable? What weight?

2) How about pillowcaes?

3) Satins I've worked with tend to ravel a LOT. I'd be very worried about the seams fraying in a quilt.

Maybe a simple star pattern, a hunter's star? I think it would make a great anniversary present for them and oh yes, a different fabric for the backing. Satin slides all over. Good luck and be sure to post a pic when your done please!

A fan quilt, pinwheel, railfence, or crazy quilt. They would also make nice pillows with decorative stitching.

Satin? A beautiful crazy quilt with mmuch emboidery would be wonderful. Embroidery the guest manes, wedding date, wedding party etc. Make it a wedding gift.

I vote for a crazy quilt. YOu cold use decorative stitches in fancy thread on each seam and solve the raveling problem. A back of flannel etc. would solve the sliding off the bed problem. It is quite possible that the satin is washable. Good luck and be sure and post pictures.

What about a bed runner? These seem to be very popular right now as the last few hotels and condos I've stayed in have them at the foot of the bed. I've even seen books with patterns in them, but the ones I've seen are about 30 inches wide and hang down the sides about a foot so you could use your own ideas - squares, stripes, etc. to design one. The condo I'm in now has the silky fabric on both sides but you could use something else on the back to save on the nice fabric. This one has braid around the edges for a more tailored look, but again you could try something else. I've been attracted to bed runners as they really dress up a bed but are easier to fold and toss on a chair at night when you want to crawl in as compared to a throw and a million pillows!
