Sewnoma, find your camera! I would love to see a picture of that quilt I have done one 1600 quilt out of a Mango Margarita Bali pop and it tuned out great but I think partially because of the vibrant colors in that jellyroll. My teenage daughter loves it and I made it for her. I would love to make another and mix/cut it up though.

Once I cut apart a quilt of flying geese and added an insertion of a lightning strike.

Not only did I not have to post a question, I didn't even know I had the question until I read this post! I have just bought a jelly roll to take to our April retreat because it looked like the 1600 quilt is something I can do while talking. Now I know where to find help if I don't like the end results. You ladies are the best. Thank you for the original post and all the great answers.

I have made 3 1600 quilt tops and one made out of a honey bun. One I did with straight seams. One I did with diagonal seams and another I cut a diagonal X through the whole thing. Thought I could transpose triangular sections and it would be cool. Well, it would have worked if my quilt had been square. So I have a whole in the center. I am going to add an embroidered design in it. When I get done, I will post a pic.

You gals are the greatest! I have a couple UFOs that could be transformed this way & actually get off my list.
love the idea of adding a large applique
my new years resolution is to work on paring down my hugh stash and this might help
