Default Anyone ever hand quilt a chicken wire pattern?

    Hi,
I'm looking to hand quilt a chicken wire motif on a small rooster wall hanging. Trying to figure out how to not stitch twice on some of the lines or travel with my needle so often. Will probably do big stitch with a finer thread than Perle 8 because I don't want it to be too prominent. Has anyone hand quilted chicken wire? Any tips?
    Thanks!

I haven't but I have a thought. How about quilting one squiggly side from edge to edge and then coming back and quilting the other half? It would help to draw a diagram. Like this: mmmmmmmmmm and back with wwwwwwwww but pretend that they are the right shape instead of ms and ws.

    mmmmmmmmmm
wwwwwwwwwwww Of course, they would meet and not have the space between them. Clear as mud?
I have to say that I love your heading too. It showed up as ever quilt a chicken on my screen. Made me smile.

I don't know how to do a link on my ipad but I found a tutorial that I think would work for either hand or machine at quiltfabrication.com dated July 23, 2015. I hope you can find it to see if it helps.

I think lots-to-do has it right. A sashiko stitch directory will be helpful for this kind of problem.

I've done a lot of hand quilting and can't picture doing that pattern because you will have to go over your work. Maybe I'm wrong but picturing it in my mind that's what I came up with.

Here is the tutorial Thimblebug is talking about, however it DOES have you quilting twice over some of the lines.

wish I could remember how to draw it, but saw at our county fair a wall hanging that used chicken wire design (machine quilted) where instead of backtracking, she did it in rows with a little squiggle .

You should be able to do it in vertical rows of half hexagon with every other row reversed to make the complete shape. You could even elongate one side if you wanted to customize it. Going vertical will allow only 2 sides that were repeated. I would probably just go between the layers to bury the thread and go to the next point instead of requilting. Hope that makes sense.
