I'm working on a gift for this Saturday, I am so close to being finished! I went to iron the piece and all the yellow material now has silver on it. I checked my iron there doesn't seem to be anything there, all the other fabrics are fine, but now I don't know what to do. It doesn't look like something that would wash off. It almost looks like it was a reaction between the material and the iron. I did prewash it, but I didn't iron it before using.

Any thoughts?

Oh my! I'm sorry that happened to you.
I have no idea what to tell you.
I always iron my light color fabrics on the wrong side in case something that I don't know about has gotten on the bottom of the iron.

I've had this happen, and don't know why. It's too bad when you are working with the clock too. I'd be glad for answers too!

I tried searching for an answer and haven't found any. All I have found was removing plastic.
I do think tho, that there was something in the fabric that the iron didn't like. Maybe fabric softener?
Can you replace that piece? Then when you go to iron it again, use another piece of fabric over top when you iron it.

I guess this is going to have to be a learning experience. I never thought to iron on the wrong side or with another piece of material over top. Unfortunately the yellow is through the piece and it is paper pieces, so I can't just remove the damaged parts and replace them.

I guess I'm just going to have to start over, thankfully the piece is only 12" by 12", so it isn't a bed sized piece, but I still didn't want to have to do it again.

Thanks for the help!

Sara,

I'm sorry this happened to you too, but I'm so glad I'm not alone!

At least it's not the ENTIRE quilt and it's only a block. Just sucks that it happened. Live and learn, I guess, right?
Just don't let it get you down.

Are you positive the fabric is 100% cotton, sounds like something is in it besides cotton :D
