I was at the quilt shop the other day and a lady told me she took a quilting class and the instructor did all her stippling by hand. Has anyone ever done this or can you give any information on how to do it?
Thanks!

Hi,

It can be done by hand. I did it on a quilt our guild made for a member who was dying of cancer. The quilt we were duplicating had been stippled by machine. Since I do not machine quilt at that level I did it by hand. It is merely quilting very closely in a random pattern. The main objective is not to have the quilting lines cross one another. It was a lot of work and I am glad that the item was crib size. It would have taken me at least 6 months had it been an adult bed size.

Thanks so much! The shop manager said she thought it was a gift if anyone could do it that it was very slow. She said that two women that was in the guild there did it by hand and it was beautiful.

I would love to see that. I can understand how beautiful it would be. How big was the piece you did :D

Stippling is just any quilting pattern used densely to flatten an area of a quilt, usually to emphasize the portions left unquilted in relief. It has been done for hundreds of years!

It's a lot faster by machine, of course....
