Default Anything Goes..

That is what I am learning about quilting.

I love sewing. Ohhh for me to say that now. When I was younger..ok in HIGH SCHOOL..*EEAAKK* I hated sewing. I started sewing when my first child was born 20 years ago. *GASP*

Now I have started really getting into quilting. I have always liked it..just make a quilt as the babies started to come.

Now I am having the time of my life making quilts. So far I have done two..with two more going. They may not be perfect. Having a hard time getting those 1/4 inch seams. but none the less I am have fun.

I just purchased a new machine last year and if I had known.. I would of got the same one as my mother and had all those fancy stitches. Guess I need to save my pennies...LOL

Glad you're having fun with the rest of us!
I started making my own clothes when I was 13. Finished a quilt top (my mom and her sister had made about half the blocks years before) as a HS home ec project and figured I'd never do another one. Made lots of kids clothes and costumes along the way. Got involved in Renfaires and made lots more costumes for family members (most of whom are now doing their own, thank goodness) And decided to start quilting as I got close to retirement. So much more fun than regular sewing!!!

Now that I like to play with my fabric I only sew squares and strips. Still will put on buttons but will NOT do alterations. I bring that to a seamstress. Am learning to machine quilt baby quilts and throws. Larger ones still go OUT to a long arm quilter. Life is fun when I am into fabrics........Hugs

It makes me smile to think that someone else loves using their sewing machine as much as I love mine. I've been sewing since I was 5.....a long time ago cause I'm 66 nowI learned on my grandmother's treadle (and still have it). I still sew dresses for my great granddaughters and enjoy it..... but quilting has become my passion and I do a lot more of that than anything else.

If you want more precise 1/4 inch seams,I suggest a 1/4 inch foot with guide. They really help.Just put your fabric next to the guide and off you go. It also makes making a Drunkard's Path quilt block a breeze. They make them for most sewing machines brands. Give it a try. I think you will be surprised how easy it is to have a accurate 1/4 inch seam.
