While not free, these are pretty cheap and would make your cutting go a lot quicker. The first one uses 5 inch squares and the second uses 10 inch squares. of course you don't have to cut into squares if you are using yardage. Have fun. This is on my "to do someday list."

paperpieces.com has free design sheets you can print off & color to design your apple core quilt- or a number of others to choose from- they also offer very inexpensive templates to use to make one= in various sizes.

I, too, have recently thought about trying an Apple Core quilt. Be careful with the template at quilterscache, someone on here wrote that it is off. Here's a link to a tutorial that shows you how to make your own template.
