Just thought I would let you know about a super place to shop for fabric especially when they have their warehouse sale. I would highly suggest making a trip here if you are in the Hershey area this weekend. My quilting friend and I shop here alot. We were there yesterday and found Thimbleberries fabric for $2.75 a yard. The warehouse sale requires you to buy full bolts of fabric with 10-15 yards of fabric. So a bolt of fabric would cost $27.50 versus buying 3 years at LQS at say $7.00 a yard for $21.00. My friend and I will usually split a bolt of fabric and everyone is happy. I have attached the flyer. Lots of choices and great prices!

donnajean, you and I think alike. I always bring my pattern, or the fabric yardage amount with me to my lqs. And I also shop the clearance section. I don't buy anything unless it's on sale either! Most lqs have 'end of bolt' sales, so you need to ask them when you arrive at the store. My lqs has one the last buisness day of the month, and it's 40% off of what is left on the bolt. So be ready and do some research work- or call ahead. Have a great time!

This is a hard one. I would find a pattern, take it with you then pick out the fabric. Have fun.

Concentrate on getting a couple beautiful focal fabrics. You can always get the rest of the fabric for the quilt from your Joann's. Once you get there you won't have any trouble finding things to spend your money on

I personally wouldn't buy layer cakes, jelly rolls, coordinated precut fabrics, or anything like that at all--these things are much more expensive generally than just buying what you need off the bolt at the shop. If you have a pattern and quilt size generally in mind before you go into the shop, I'll bet if you tell one of the salespeople your budget and what you'd like to make they'd be really helpful in terms of fabric suggestions and how to get the most for your money.

I think this is a great idea...checking the Internet.
Keepsake, FabricDepot and the list goes on and on...Sometimes I check out the fabric at the LQS to make sure it looks and feels like something I want then go online to look for it at a more reasonable price.

Whatever you decide to do I know you will be very happy with your choice, because of all the thought being put into it and the kindness of your DH.

Find a two-tone pattern you like, then see what inspires you. Could be an infinite number of color combinations, opposites, harmonious, Could even be prints, Large floral-small floral, etc. Buy 2 yards of each. that will give you about 90 x 72 of fabric. Might find sashing, backing & binding to complement it at a more frugal shop. Happy shopping!

Make sure you check out the sale fabrics in the LQS. I went to a very special LQS in Maryland last year and oodd and aahhdd over the beautiful fabrics for awhile. Then I became realistic and knew I couldn't afford those prices. So, I looked for the 50% off bolts--they were on the floor in a special space, but there were lots of them. They are often just last season's patterns or discountinued patterns of fabrics, but they were beautiful to me. I bought from that stack only and was happy as a lark. BTW, this isn't a special sale--most LQS's have a "reduced" section all year round.

Wish I were there to help you choose (he, he)--I'm great at spending other people's money--maybe next year. But have a great time and heed all the advice others have given.............hugs, carol/kittyquilt
