Default ideas for charity auction quilt for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

I've started a new job and downstairs in our building is the local CFF office. Backstory is one of my best friends growing up had CF and passed away 20 years ago this month. I've really been wanting to do something in her honor and stopped today to see if they had auctions at events where I could place a quilt in her honor. They do....

Now I have to come up with an idea. I am thinking pretty simple with the word "breathe" or "just breathe" in pretty large letters or even script applique if I can get a pattern to print large enough. I am thinking white/light blue tones however the "ribbon" seems to be dark purple. But don't know if I should do more of a whole cloth type quilt by using backing fabric for both sides? Looks like "65 roses" might also be a common theme...so maybe a combination?

Any one want to brainstorm? Just saw a saying/meme on pinterest that was a dandelion being blown....anyone know of any patterns like that out there?

I have no great ideas but think it is a wonderful idea. I'm sure you will have a "light bulb" moment and get going on the quilt. good luck.!

Our group always has a quilt with roses at the auction. Children say Cystic Fibrosis as 65 roses. Red rose fabric is readily available and is always popular.

What about replicating something like the old man blowing. You see it on old maps to indicate wind.

65 roses was my thought too. There are a lot of patterns out there for foundation pieced roses.

I am now waffling between roses (i love the look of the modern paper pieced ones) but am not sure I want to make 65 of them - they'd have to be pretty small....and doing more of a whole cloth where I actually quilt the design directly onto the fabric then I could do both roses AND the words.......hmmm...still thinking!

Anyone know of any tone on tone fabric with roses (like in whites or creams) in a larger print?

I love brainstorming. So just throwing my thoughts into the mix.

There is quite a selection of dandelion fabric at fabric.com.

With the rose theme, I thought it would be great to have a quilt with 65 rose blocks, however that idea doesn't play very nicely with quilts. So more brainstorming ... You could make 64 blocks (8x8), then make borders with one more block as one cornerstone to make 65.

Another idea would be to make a strip quilt with 65 strips.

Or something random-looking like this ...

Incorporate 65 squares/rectangles ... with maybe some dandelion fabric for the sashing ...

Wishing you the best with this project in memory of your friend.

aww thanks DJ! I was actually sketching during the sermon at church -- it actually helps me listen better. I am leaning towards a whole cloth with different red/pink/purple threads for roses and then the word Breathe kind of in the middle in big letters -- kind of like this: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/AYH4by...ecmomyuM23l4M/

but probably not as custom quilted.....I don't want to over do it!

I like this quilt & looks easy enough to make but is very striking.
