Default artsy or Modern?

I just made this for a swap, but now I am not sure about it...it is the Modern mini quilt swap...

I think this piece might be more artsy than Modern..what say you?

I'd say artsy. It reminds me of crazy quilts because of the pretty embroidery and the elegant colors. When I think "modern" I think of simpler designs with emphasis on abstract rather than pictorial. I love this, by the way - and who wouldn't!

Oh, Fransson! always has a variety of modern quilts that might suggest something: http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/directory.html Also, there is a modern quilt webring that I've stumbled on, but don't have a bookmark.

thanks for this link...sadly it is just what I feared...the so called "modern" quilt movement is just a mimic of the late 60's and lacks creativity...sigh...

I love "modern". It's a simple style that lets the fabulous fabrics do the talking. It never bores me, like other types do.

60's??? Sorry, not seeing it...

If you don't like modern, I'm wondering why you entered a modern swap...

The creativity in modern is in fabric choice and usage. You can't just grab any mess out of the scrapbag.

Jacquie, I think its beautiful and artistic. Modern if you consider the fact that it's not like a standard cut and piece pattern. But I feel its mosly of an artistic blend...Great job!

This site has excellent examples of modern quilts. (as it should! since it is the Modern Quilt Guild!) http://themodernquiltguild.com/
