Here's the one attic window quilt I made. My pink sashing was also 1" . I do like how it turned out, but now I wonder if it would have had more of a 3-D effect if I had done what MarionsQuilts had suggested with the "windows" being all the same color , just different shades. Ummm.

I love it turned out beautiful. I will see how it goes, want to make if for a gal who lives by me, she so sweet and has a lot of health issues as so does her hubby. She feeds the birds everyday and just loves to watch them so I thought she may like it.

Pretty birds! The brown looks great for the window sashing.... can you add another brown as well to the bottom?
The thin yellow is nice too. I think I have (or had) some of that bird print too.

Thank you, I love this fabric, was gonna try and do a Dresden plate that a gal had done on here some time back, but don't remember the pattern.

Love the yellow, it makes it really pretty and summery. I think the white should be changed, it is to stark but one important thing to remember, it is your quilt and if you like it then it should stay. Very Pretty.

The reason I asked if it was one block or more is because I think it may be too much yellow. The birds are so sweet and I think the yellow may compete with them.

Totally agree with you, SusieQOH .. my eyes keep going to the yellow strip instead of to the beautiful view outside the window, which should be our focal point with an Attic Windows pattern.

The whole purpose of the attic windows is to create that 3-d effect, and I personally found it much more "3-d" with all the same colour................
That makes total sense ... after all, in doing an Attic Windows, we are emulating an IRL window and the view beyond. Most times the window frames/sashings in our homes are all the same colour, so a quilted one would be the same, and using different fabrics gives us the 3-D effect that the shadows IRL would create. Great explanation and Thank You, MarionQuilts!

I agree - the white is too stark.

I think the yellow takes away from the bird, IMHO. Have you tried a neutral like a beige? I think any color other than a neutral would take away from the colors of the birds.
