LOLOL about the cakes.
This is an old german recipe . it is a lot denser and not as sweet as american cakes. I have made this with plums or apples and everybody loves it.
1/2 cup sweet butter
3/4 cup sugar
2lg eggs
1tsp lemon juice
1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
about 7 plums
Beat butter, sugar, eggs and lemon juice until creamy
blend flour, baking powder and salt in seperate bowl. Add to the butter mix, alternate with the milk.
cut plums in half remove pit but not the skin. cut plum in a fan shape-about 4 cuts-sprinkle with a bit of sugar and almond slices.
spread in greased spring form. bake at 350 50 to 60 min. do the toothpick test, because all ovens are different.mine takes about 60 min.
You can make apple, nectarine or fresh peach cake out of this recipe. they are all good.Sometime i use chopped walnuts and sometimes i add a little vanilla flavoring..........Enjoy :))

Do you put the plums in the pan first or on top of the batter? (This looks like something DH would enjoy.)

Just lay the plums on top of the dough. the dough is creamy,so I just kind of push them down a little. as the cake bakes the dough will come up and around the plums a little.

Love everything you did, but I have to say that I think the kitty in the picture was just perfect.
